Post 5/30: Portland Anniversary Day 1

After spending the morning doing daycare and packing for our trip, I dropped Josiah off with my best friend Jolyn and took off to pick up Jesse by 2pm. The drive was supposed to take 2 1/2 hours, but due to several accidents, it was closer to 3 1/2.

(This was before the traffic got bad :-)   )

We finally arrived around 5:30pm, got our bags taken to our room, and barely made it upstairs in time to catch our movie.

Each room has a theme based on a person. Our's is about this local architect who designed buildings in the Oregon and Washington area. There are facts about him painted all over our walls.

In fact, the whole hotel is very interesting and artsy, covered in murals and mosaics. These faces are painted on every pipe in the building. This one is above our bed:

Admission was free since we are guests. All of the amenities here are open to the public, but guests can stay longer or get in cheaper for most things. We watched "How to Tame a Dragon" while sitting in big comfy chairs at a table and being served burgers and fries. The food was really good and so was the movie. It was a fun experience!

Then we walked around the grounds, sat on the porch of a nearby building, before heading back to our hotel room to spend some time together.

We then went to the heated soaking pool, but it was turning into a party scene there with about 20 other people who all brought out the alcohol. We decided to head back to our room again.

We got dressed and had drinks downstairs (because they wouldn't deliver sodas to your room), but then we came back to our room and ordered pizza from the restaurant.  And then I wanted to get a few pictures of the hotel at night.

Finally, we came back to the room and Jesse crashed for the night while I posted my pictures. Tomorrow, we'll be checking out around 10am, driving into Portland for our lunch on the cruise ship and sight-seeing around the city! More pictures to come then...
